The Role
The lawyers were friendly and approachable, and gave you real work to do right from the start. A diverse range of activities were also arranged for vacation scheme students over the two weeks.
Lawyers took the time to explain what was required of you and to give details as to the background of deals. They also gave feedback and thanked you for your work personally.
Students are assigned two mentors whilst at the firm, and all staff were generally supportive and happy to help.
It was down to vacation students to organise and manage their own workloads, and so you could take on the level of work you felt comfortable with. I did however feel slightly pressured to take on high quantities of work, and to approach partners for challenging work.
I was given real work to do on current deals, though there was support in place from qualified lawyers when required. Having my own office was beneficial, and prompted me to attempt things on my own before asking for help.
The placement definitely prepared me for a legal career, and helped my to better understand the nature of a lawyers workload, this helping with application forms.
The Company
Everyone worked hard but was friendly and approachable, and would talk to you about life outside of the firm.
There was a clear timetable of events providing good structure to the internship.
I don't feel a great deal was invested in my personal training or development.
Financial Bonus
A good firm to work for if you want to work in the city.
The Culture
A good range of social events were put on.
Fairly expensive, but as expected given the central London location.
A good range of bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs.
Activities were laid on but there was often not enough time after the day's work.
