    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was pretty cool. I hate to be sycophantic about it but you could literally make of it what you wanted. If you wanted to experience the life of a trainee, you could. If you wanted to approach partners for research notes or other more stretching work, you could. If you wanted to sit on your arse for two weeks and get paid £800, you could do that too. The people on the scheme were awesome and the people you met around the firm were pretty great too. It really is as sociable and friendly as the site makes out - I'd recommend.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They really took the time to explain what they wanted from you, they weren't upset when you asked for more directions, and they gave really good, really detailed feedback. They all seemed to be rooting for us and it felt like they were really interested in seeing us progress and get better at the work we were doing.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • they were very detailed in what they wanted and were always open to questions as to how to how to improve and about where we had gone wrong. They were very good with feedback.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I say, it was what you made of it. you could take on loads, or nothing at all. Sometimes you would get a lot at once which was difficult to deal with but then everyone was really understanding if you said you had to let them down and sack a task off.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think it's true of Jones Day that you are given a lot of responsibility and autonomy. They were definitely not just giving us all the same task to do and to mark us on. any work we did was for clients and ended up being used as the work would have been used had any other office member written it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was really nice to see some of he work I have done at college in an academic framework come together in an applied, commercial framework.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The place is renowned for being a really sociable firm and it certainly lived up to expectations. The events they had planned for us were almost all firm-wide events. We got to meet a lot of people in the firm and got on really well with them.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Literally. not a seam in sight.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • there was a mini-series of seminars for vac-schemers, and we were invited to the seminars which were being run for current trainees. they had obviously put a lot of time, money, and effort into thinking about us.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • it is very competitive. from the thousands (literally - i saw them all stacked up) of applications they only take around 12 people per year.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • we organised a couple of pub trips ourselves but everyone was pretty into their work.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • just off fleet street - pretty normal.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • the city...

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • there was a great pro bono project run for us where we could accompany some of the associates to the waterloo legal advice centre to give free legal advice to those in need of it

    4/5
