    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a great time at Jones Day - its a law firm with a difference due to its non-rotational training contract, and they run their vacation schemes in the same way so it is a question of knocking on doors, introducing yourself to people and asking for work. It won't be for everyone but I really enjoyed the chance to try different types of legal work from different departments, and everyone is so friendly you soon forget the embarrassment of knocking on a stranger's door.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Most people are very welcoming and encouraging, actively looking for good work to give vacation students.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • While those running the scheme were very friendly, and you are given a trainee and an associate mentor I rarely saw mine as both were very busy - that said, they were great people and if I had had a problem I could definitely have gone to speak to them.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It's a question of 'go find your own work' which means those that are proactive pick up more work, however even when there isnt much work around it seems to be perfectly acceptable to get up and speak to different people in the firm instead.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Vacation students were given a fair amount of responsiblity, drafting letters to clients and attending client meetings.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Teaches you about good time management!

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and the trainees seem to have a good time. However that said it is a law firm and so you are expected to work!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well organised week with a good balance of activities and work - although at the 'partners lunch' it seemed a number of the partners dropped out.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We attended a seminar with the trainees and a negotiation workshop - in two weeks that was about all there was time for!

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • You are guaranteed a Training Contract interview at the end of the placement.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The placement students all got along well - there were 15 of us and we took a number of trips to the pub.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Its the middle of London so everything is expensive!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Its not far from Covent Garden if you want to go out, although not many on the scheme actually did.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is a chance to get involved with the sports teams and some pro-bono work, however there didnt seem to be many other activities going on.

    4/5
