The Role
The work itself was quite varied providing me with plenty of opportunities to work on several different projects, the office provides a relased and friendly environment and with several other interns my placement was enjoyable.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility throughout the year making me feel like a valuable member of the team. Once settled in I always felt like a valued employee and not a placement student
The was a lack of support at the beginning, however with perseverance this was resolved, generally the managers were always around to offer any support or guidance I needed
It took some time before I was given enough work to keep me busy through the day, although the managers made a good effort to delegate me tasks there was quite a bit of waiting around. As the year progressed this improved.
I was given a manageable amount of responsibilty, the work I carried out was important in keeping projects running and valuable to the compnay.
I was little training that would be of any benefits to my degree studies, the training was very much on-the-job, I learnt how to use various types of software by carrying out odd jobs that needed to be done. Although the placement was not related directly to my degree, I was able to develop my comminucation through various channels, be it face to face, via teleconferencing or sending emails. My confidence developed significantly through the year.
The Company
Relaxed atmosphere, everyone is approachable.
No plan was set up for the placement, I was given work based on what was available.
As an intern I received little training, any training was carried out individually.
Above 25 days holiday
I have been told they would favourably on me applying for a graduate job
The Culture
There were 12 students, with a group of us regularly socialising outside of work, a few colleagues furthermore organised Go-Karting and Bowling events throughout the year.
Living costs were quite high as it is a commuter town for London based workers.
OK nightlife with a few pubs to choose from and a reasonanle student community with a university in the town
Only two opportunities during the year to help with charitable work, chance to play football each wednesday in Basildon and an employee run cycling group.
