    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thouroughly enjoyed the internship at Aon. I believe I was suited to the team I was in, the people in the team were extremly welcoming and people went out of their way to ensure the work given to me was interesting. Additionally, outside of work both the team and other graduates were happy to invite interns on socials/out for activities, which meant socialising in a more informal environment, which really made a difference when doing work for someone.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given real responsibility with the work given to me from the outset and had the chance the add real value to the team. This meant I most definitely felt valued as the work I was doing was vital in order to get a project done at a higher level. Additionally, the welcoming nature of the team also meant I felt valued in the office.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Both my manager and 'buddy', and everyone else in my team, were very willing to help if I was ever struggling with work Furthermore, they actively encouraged me to ask questions, relevent to the work I was doing, or not, to get a better understanding of why I was doing a task and to not just do it for the sake of doing so.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload varied during my internship, but this was what I expected. As my manager had outlined from the outset, as time went on and I had done work for more people which was to the standard they expected, they naturally trusted me with more work. Also, as I learnt more as my time at Aon progessed, again, naturally I would be busier as I could carry out more tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot more responsibility than expected at the start. Day to day tasks given to me by my team were the same roles graduates would have carried out, so naturally they were essential to the running of the team. Further, more longer term projects were explained in a way that they would really add value, even long after my internship was over.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed may not be directly relevent to my degree, as obviously this is more academic than financial services work. However, not just the soft skills I learnt, such as building relatoinships in an office environment, will stay with me for ever, but also the more technical skills, such as working with Excel and Bloomberg which also help me in my career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly atmosphere despite being a very large office based in London. Always something going on due to the amound of people working around you. Everyone friendly, despite not knowing you/not being in your team, and senior colleagues remained very much approachable. This all added to a fun and exciting office environment to work in.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised very well. 3 days training in Chelmsford was well done, with accomodation, transport, food, etc. all very well done. Additionally the transition into the main office where you would be based for the 9 weeks was done well. Our presentation day was also organised well. Constant communication from the graduate team added to this, and if you ever had any questions it was easy to get in touch.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot of time and effort initially at training in Chelmsford, with both technical training and traiining in softer skills such as presentation skills and first impressions. Additionally, ongoinging throughout the internship from the team and other teams there were training days/meetings and on the job training which meant my technical skills improved dramatically.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As with anything, it is hard to tell whether you will be offered a job whilst interning. As with any intership, your goal is to be offerred a job at the end of your time there and it is only a matter of time until we will see if this has come to fruition. I believe prospects are more than favourable if you enter via the internship route rather than applying for graduate roles.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. Fellow students were all very friendly and keen to get to know each other in a more informal enviorment which began from the first week. On top of this, colleagues were keen to invite interns out after work to socialse, which again meant getting to know people in a more informal environment which most definitely helped with professional relatoinships.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working in London is obviously not cheap. As it is well documented, living in London is expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Despite being expensive, again, nightlife in London is well publiscised as being good. There is always something going on and always something to do any day of the week.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Whether it be in sports teams or in going out for a drink, Aon offer a lot outside of the office.
