The Role
It was a really positive experience. I met a lot of great people, contributed to the World's Biggest Coffee Morning and gained a lot of useful skills.
I finished about three weeks ago and I've already been in quite a lot of contact with the people I was working with - hopefully some of them will be friends for a long time.
They were all very positive about my work, praising me when I did well and giving constructive criticism when I needed it.
There were days when I was a bit bored, especially towards the beginning. As time went on, though, things got more and more hectic - in a good way!
I was expected to make contact with quite important people, like Mayors and MPs. I was also responsible for sending out all press releases connected with the World's Biggest Coffee Morning to the local newspapers.
I'm now in a paid position, and I feel that the skills I gained at Macmillan helped me to answer questions in my interview with definite examples of the skills I had and relationships I had built.
The Company
It was really nice! Everyone was very friendly and supportive. And they gave me some nice presents when I left!
It was great - all the Interns across the country attended an Induction day in London where we met the people in charge of the Internships and learnt a lot about the scheme and what was expected of us.
I felt Macmillan were dedicated to making the scheme a success. They knew that their Interns were an asset, and made us feel appreciated and supported.
Very appealing - I've already applied for a couple of roles with them, although I am currently working for another organisation.
The Culture
All of us who were on placements were dotted all around the UK, but it was great to meet them at the Induction/Wrap-up day. The rest of the people in my office were very friendly but it was a small office and most were a bit older than me. There weren't exactly any wild parties!
I was in a town called Bromsgrove, where food etc. were cheap, and living with my Mum! Macmillan paid expenses for travel and lunch, which helped.
I tended to go continue going out with existing friends in my home town.
Only really attending other fundraising events, which was good fun but still sort of felt like work!
