    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a really positive experience. I met a lot of great people, contributed to the World's Biggest Coffee Morning and gained a lot of useful skills.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I finished about three weeks ago and I've already been in quite a lot of contact with the people I was working with - hopefully some of them will be friends for a long time.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • They were all very positive about my work, praising me when I did well and giving constructive criticism when I needed it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were days when I was a bit bored, especially towards the beginning. As time went on, though, things got more and more hectic - in a good way!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was expected to make contact with quite important people, like Mayors and MPs. I was also responsible for sending out all press releases connected with the World's Biggest Coffee Morning to the local newspapers.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I'm now in a paid position, and I feel that the skills I gained at Macmillan helped me to answer questions in my interview with definite examples of the skills I had and relationships I had built.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was really nice! Everyone was very friendly and supportive. And they gave me some nice presents when I left!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was great - all the Interns across the country attended an Induction day in London where we met the people in charge of the Internships and learnt a lot about the scheme and what was expected of us.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt Macmillan were dedicated to making the scheme a success. They knew that their Interns were an asset, and made us feel appreciated and supported.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing - I've already applied for a couple of roles with them, although I am currently working for another organisation.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of us who were on placements were dotted all around the UK, but it was great to meet them at the Induction/Wrap-up day. The rest of the people in my office were very friendly but it was a small office and most were a bit older than me. There weren't exactly any wild parties!

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was in a town called Bromsgrove, where food etc. were cheap, and living with my Mum! Macmillan paid expenses for travel and lunch, which helped.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I tended to go continue going out with existing friends in my home town.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Only really attending other fundraising events, which was good fun but still sort of felt like work!

    2/5
