The Role
This internship program is one of the most structured I have worked at. Very good balance between work, fun and networking, The project I was working on had a huge potential impact on the company. The interns at Amex are given projects which drive business within the company and are important. Enjoyed the work so much, I was often here beyond the time I was required to because I enjoyed my project, my team and the impact I could make within the organisation. Finally, I would like to emphasize the work-life balance at Amex as the workday would be from 9-5 leaving plenty of time to pursue extra activities after work.
The people at Amex are some of the most friendly bunch I have met. They do not treat interns like interns, but rather like coworkers with equal respect. Furthermore, networking is encouraged and is a large part of the internship. Every single person of the organisation is willing to take 30 mins out of their schedule to talk about their career, path within Amex and their team.
At Amex, you have hot desks i.e. non-assigned desks. I would in fact be seated next to my manager. He would constantly be at hand to answer any questions I had and provided me all the resources I needed to succeed in my role. So, good amount of support provided.
Just the right amount. You can put in as much work required into your project as you would like to. Furthermore, I was given side projects in addition to the side projects, so when I hit a roadblock on one, I could work on the other.
Lots of responsibility. My project had potential to make a huge impact on the team and an intern was given equivalent responsibility as an analyst within the team.
Extremely helpful. I have developed excel skills in my internship and ppt skills which I can take to my degree and utilise if given the chance to come back to amex.
