The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working in the Special Events Team at macmillan, the team moral and passion for their jobs certainly influenced my attitude to work.
Event the smallest of tasks were really appreciated. With my internship being new for the team they were very greatful for any help i could give them.
I was given 2 mentors plus a manager. 1 mentor was a member of my team and available at all times to answer any questions I had, the other was there to offer support in terms of future career options including reviewing my CV and applications. My manager along with all my team members continuosly provided me with advice in order to achieve the best.
Assisting with 4 different events meant I always had emails to respond to, Prizes to source, venue visits to complete, or goodie bags to fill. Not one day was the same.
Because I supported 4 different events it was very difficult to gain ownership of at least one.
Working for 4 different managers on 4 different events has hugely improved my time management and organisation skills. In addition my attention to detail has had to be impeccable to ensure I didnt email with regards to the wrong event. Each of these skills are vital for my final year and jobs I will have in the future.
The Company
Working for a charity is a whole different thing to working for a corporate company! Workimg at macmillan is very enjoyable, the office atmosphere is relaxed and very friendly!
considering this was the first year for my internship, it was very organised, the overall inter induction was fantastic. In addition, the London Special Events team have a very strong programme that works well
very little training was needed, any systems I didnt know how to use I was shown in order to complete my job succesfully.
Healthcare/Dental
Very appealing, however a graduate scheme is not available at the moment.
The Culture
being on the "summer placement scheme" meant I met 6 other interns from different departments, this meant we could meet up for lunch or after work for drinks. It was nice to have the variation and find out what else was going on in the business.
Travel into work was expensive although covered by expenses.
there were quite a few places to go for a drink or food, however you are only a tube ride away from central london
yes, and they are always advertised on the intranet.
