    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am really enjoying the opportunity of doing internship with Fluor. Construction Internship Program (C.I.P.) gave me an understanding that I want to work in this industry. It gave me the opportunity to apply the knowledge that I gained at university to a real industry. Also, the knowledge that I gained during my internship will definitely facilitate the final year at university.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • For me feeling valued is the best motivation. I am working in a team of 11 employees. The team is very friendly and we always work close to each other. The work that I am doing cannot be done without the participation of my colleagues. Working together with my colleagues to produce the final result makes me feel valued by them and by the team as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Our department has weekly meetings where every employee shares the results of the completed work. Also, during these meetings we can discuss issues or ask for advice from our line manager or from any colleagues. Moreover, my line manager provides me reports with my performance and guidance that might be useful for me. On top of that I can always come to my manager's office and cover anything on my mind.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Normally, I have enough work to do what makes me constantly busy. Sometimes it happens that I get more work than usual, which makes my internship more interesting and challenging. There are occasions when I feel that I can perform some additional work in order to gain experience in a new area and make myself busier.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have a good amount of responsibilities; however, I was given it in a progressive way. I have observed that my responsibilities are increasing every month and not only the quantity but also an importance of them. When I get new responsibilities, I increasingly feel the value of myself in the company.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained a significant amount of skills in different areas during Construction Internship Program (C.I.P.) with Fluor. One of the most important skills that I have learned is the understanding of the importance of the work that I do. This knowledge will be useful to me in the final year at the university and in my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was perfect. Normally, the office where I worked was always busy. Everyone was really positive, friendly and ready to help anytime. The atmosphere in the office helped me to focus on the job. I build personal and professional relationships within my department and beyond that helped me to find friends.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Construction Internship Program (C.I.P.) with Fluor has been running for a few years and is really well set up. The Assessment Day was very interesting, relaxing and uncommon. During the first day the tour was organized where it was shown all the necessary office areas. During the first month a number of necessary trainings were conducted that helped to start working smoothly.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Getting internship with Fluor does not mean that you got a graduate job. Throughout the year of Construction Internship Program (C.I.P.) the company will consider you as a candidate for graduate job. If you will match with all company's criteria for graduate job position, the company will likely offer you job after graduation from university.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are a number of social groups that you can join. The most appropriate social group for interns I think is GAP group. GAP stands for Graduates Advancing to Professionalism. This social group addressed primarily to graduates; however, interns can get involved to this group too. They do a number of activities where you can socialize outside of work.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived near the office. Farnborough is a nice town with an average cost of living in the UK. The town is very close to London just 30 minutes gets you from Farnborough to central London by train.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I would say Farnborough does have a low level of nightlife. However, you can always go to London which is so close.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. So many! Fluor gives an opportunity to get involved with a number of different activities outside work.
