The Role
Best internship I have ever done. The team of people who run the program take really good care of their interns and grads. The work we do is relevant to the business, and we are encouraged to also research and learn about any technologies we're interested in.
Very much so. I was given work to do as an intern that other colleagues were doing as grads and full time employees.
Support and guidance by American Express employees was impeccable, My manager was very experienced in technology and management- so she was a great role model for me. The support wasn't restricted to my team though, it was present all around the company. From the employees that run the intern and grad program, through to VP's, Directors and Managers on other teams. Everyone was there to help.
Busy, but not too busy. I never felt totally overwhelmed, but always had enough work to feel like I was contributing to the business.
I was given responsibility in the sense that I was trusted to take on work and deliver it in the right time frame.
I had the opportunity to learn multiple new languages, which helps my degree to no end.
The Company
Great! Everyone was always helpful when I had any questions, and my colleagues always said hello when I bumped into them while getting a cup of tea.
Very organised. We had our placement roles a month before starting, so plenty of time to prepare.
A lot more than expected. We had "lunch and learns" about 3 or 4 times a week, where we discussed upcoming technologies. Anything that us interns asked for, in regards to personal development was delivered.

Great, I've accepted a graduate offer for next September.
The Culture
Excellent, we would go out in Brighton on a weekly basis for a drink. We also did more casual social activities like cinema trips, escape rooms, going out for dinner, days down the beach, shopping, tech talks, trips to London, the zoo and so much more. Not sure how we fit it all into 10 weeks!!
Pretty pricey. Brighton is expensive, not as bad as London though so thats a pulse. Burgess Hill (where the office is) has a couple of cheap pubs. The Block and Gasket does £2.5 pints of Aspell. There are loads of places that do discount for Amex employees too.
The best!!
Loads, we were always doing something. The interns and grads are a sociable bunch of people.
