    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Despite the long hours of commuting as i was assigned on a project in Swindon, I would say that the internship as a whole has been one of the best experiences I have ever had. The relationship between the other members of the team was really good and there is a healthy working environment. What is more, i was given a lot of responsibility really quickly which is something I embrace as it makes your actual work worth the long hours you spend. You also get a glimpse of how it is to work at one of the top companies in the engineering domain.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the start of my internship I can confidently say that every single person from the team treated me with respect and trie to help in any way they could. Due to the fact that I was assigned on a quite busy project, the tasks that I had to complete were important in terms of the strict time limits and the quantity of work. As a result, I have felt valued by everyone in the team, as I tried my best in helping them in any way I could.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Similar to the other members of the team, the management/supervisor is also available and approachable to discuss any issues that might arise. Furthermore, the goals/aims during the internship are clearly identified at the start in order to have a plan/idea about what is to follow but also have the flexibility of altering anything or doing any extra tasks which you might have a preference for.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of the project, there were not many times that I can say I was not busy. Everyone in the team however had significantly more tasks and responsibilities than me so it felt only natural to work as hard as anyone else.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I can confidently say that all the tasks that i was assigned during the internship were of significant importance. I was given to realise this relatively early, mainly after meeting with various members of other teams and realising how close the deadlines were for all my assigned tasks.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout the duration of the two months, I have worked on developing vital skills such as team work, time management, technical analysis and social skills in different meetings. I would not say that these will assist me directly in my degree at the university in terms of the modules, but will definitely make a significant impact on my work later on, after the completion of my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was excellent and everyone had a positive relationship with eachother. During working hours though everyone was focused on their task and assigned work whilst being social during breaks.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised and help was always available whenever needed. The only thing i would say is that because I was assigned on a project quite far from the head offices in London, i did not get the chance to meet or socialise with all of the interns, although a few social events were held during the internship.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company always tried to do the best they can in order to develop me further as a person and an employee. I also went to a couple of extra training sessions mainly for health and safety, in order to have the ability to go out on the actual track and see the work that was being done, not only being at the office.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As I enjoyed the whole internship experience I would definitely go back to the organisation for a graduate scheme as i believe it will provide me with the correct foundations to built my career in the engineering community and follow the path towards chartered accrediation, something which the organisation encourages as well

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • At the socials organised by the company, everyone was really friendly and sociable amongst the other interns. Due to the fact i was sent to the Swindon office, i did not get the chance to meet or go out with many of the other interns as we were far from eachother.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As i lived in the centre of London, the cost of living and socialising was quite expensive in general. However i was assigned to the offices in Swindon so i had to commute every day, which took me about 4 hours. All the travelling expenses however were covered by the company.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Living in London, the nightlife was very active as you can imagine. In Swindon however i only went out a couple of times and everything was a bit quieter.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of opportunities for socialising since there is 'Talentworks which is an active group/society inside the company that are organising a variety of events such as fundraising 5k races and other similar events with an aim of promoting a team spirit and raising money for different organisations.
