The Role
Very enjoyable, not much I would change in the future.
Everyone was very helpful and willing to explain anything that was unclear. People were friendly and treated me as an equal.
I was given tasks and had weekly meetings to set out what I had to do.
Most days I had plenty to do.
I was very pleased and surprised by the amount of responsibility and trust that I was given. I felt that I was a part of the team and that I had things that I needed to complete for the team to move forward. I really enjoyed being given roles that were integral to the tasks at hand.
- I have found many new ways of organizing and interpreting data which will transfer to labs - My communication skills in the workplace have strengthened which will transfer over to projects - I can manage my time better to meet deadlines by setting up a weekly calendar - I perfected my instant coffee (cold coffee with 2 brown sugars dissolved in a touch boiling water, and a splash of milk = deliciousness) - I have learned how to use new software (visio and furthered knowledge of excel) - I gained an understanding of both the engineering side and the construction side of projects
The Company
People were very focused on work but were also chatting when they were free or getting coffee. I think that it was a very healthy balance.
It was done quite well because there was some structure but also flexibility to pursue things that you wanted to. I liked the fact that there was support if you needed it but if you were happy you could go on and work on what you had.
Everyone was very helpful and wanted to see me succeed and mentored me wherever possible. It felt that they genuinely cared and that I got help that I needed.
Very pleased with the internship and would love to do another if possible.
The Culture
The interns got along extremely well and had drinks every week. I spent time with multiple interns over the weekend and had a great time. We have group chats on 4 different platforms for all the interns.
It wasn't too bad especially because I grew up near Paddington I knew where to find a cheap pint and food. It was a bit pricier near Pilgrim Street but I was only there once a week so it was manageable.
There was plenty to do if you wanted to do it. With public transport everywhere is accessible so there is always something to do.
I signed up for 3 Bechtel activities outside of work (Tottenham Court Road, Softball and Ascot) which I am looking forward to.
