The Role
It was enjoyable but i am not sure i would want to do this as a full-time career.
My colleagues were really friendly and welcoming. Despite the age gap and the fact I was only there for 11 months, they treated me as a valued member.
My supervisors were very supportive and helpful. They encouraged me on all aspects of my work and also my academic improvement.
I was generally pretty busy on most days, but I had a good sense of responsibility over my work as i was given certain tasks to complete within a given time-frame not daily.
I was given full responsibility over my own work, however ther were obviously things that I could not do because of my experience.
I definately developed many skills. My supervisors encouraged me to attend any training I thought would be useful. They also regularly monitored my progress and asked how i felt i had progressed.
The Company
Everyone was very warm and friendly. Showed a general interest in everyone.
There were a few unanticipated problems such as the illness of my supervisor at the beginning of my placement but other members stepped in.
They allowed me time for training and arranged for a week's work placement at the University's Solicitors firm. They often offered to fund any training i wanted to undertake.
Above 25 days holiday
It is a small department but possibly if they had a vacancy when i had qualified.
The Culture
I didn't really meet many other placement students. There weren't any within my department.
I lived in the centre so it was quite cost;y but it meant i did not hav to pay transport fees and it was convenient to get to work and to town for socialising.
I don't out often but I am very close to the heart of Birmingham's nightlife.
A few social outings
