    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role involved working with the Digital services team and supporting colleagues with the maintenance and development of apprenticeship data within our various systems. It involved me generating daily attendance reports by analysing the results in the system and coming up with a detailed analysis. Also my role involved working with colleagues from the department to explore Microsoft Teams, its functionality and the use of Microsoft Power Automate.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt several of new skills during my placement and these involve the following; excellent communications skills as I negotiated with the team to complete various challenging tasks within the deadline and this increased my teamwork skills. I also learnt good analytical skills as my role involved me analysing large data sets and resolving issues that came up.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given several responsibilities during my placement and this included working with the team on a project as well as other mini tasks of writing up reports, completing attendance records, presenting my ideas across the team, holding weekly meetings and finally using the data systems to analyse the financial data.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received helpful guidance during my training before I started the placement which highly prepared me for the role. Also, I received it when I needed specific support during a challenging task by collaborating with another colleague/manager through meetings/emails etc.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was fantastic. It was a very friendly and helpful team. The atmosphere was a very positive calm experience with a team of great professional respectful individuals with a positive attitude. It was an atmosphere of excellence as there was a level of trust between colleagues.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement upto a point where I asked my manager for any future graduate roles within their department. It was an exciting opportunity as it enabled me to broaden my knowledge and enhance my skills for my future career.

  • I would highly recommend applying to Aston university as it’s a very friendly atmosphere and it also enables you to broaden your knowledge by having the opportunity to work with an excellent team within your field of interest. It also allows you to enhance your skills by getting yourself involved in the challenging problem solving tasks with the team. Working in Aston university allows you to get an insight of the career path you would prefer to select through experience.
