    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a big transition going from a small research coursework in class to a big professional research project but I had a lot of support and I have definitely been given the opportunity to develop new skills and learn to be more self sufficient.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt my work was very valued with my recruiting, testing participants then analysing data. Also with my literature research and assisting writing up results and writing up a research paper.

  • I was given a lot of support throughout, especially when I first started.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was pretty busy most of the time so it really makes you feel you have achieved something at the end of the day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I was given assistance in areas I wasn't 100% sure about but I was encouraged to take responsibility for the tasks I was involved with in order to further myself.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It really helped. I feel I have a better understanding of more complex statistics and psychological theories, I feel I have a good idea of the structure of my final year project and also in presenting the paper.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office certainly wasn't dull. I was in an office with other placement students working on different projects and so we got to see lots of different projects at work.

  • It was very well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot of time and effort, I couldn't have asked for more.

  • I'm intending to do post-graduate study and continue a career in research.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, I didn't have any problems and we went out outside of work time and fun in the office.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reasonable for a central city location. Student deals.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots to do both at the university and in the city.

  • Evening lectures and will be presenting at a conference.
