The Role
I enjoyed my placement year to a great extent! Placement year is a great incredible experience in which I would encourage everyone should participate in.
Everytime I'm at my placement I feel valued by not only the people in the office I work in but by other departments too.
From the moment I started my placement I recieved help and guidance from my manager.
I'm quite busy on a daily basis as there is always something to do but that doesn't bother me as I learn new things everyday including skills.
I was given a lot of responsibility as I am the only placement student. There are other casual workers but they have a much flexible role than I do so I get given the responsibility from my manager most times.
The skills especially have a major impact from when I finish my degree as I can say I've learn this and that. The whole experience is something I can take away with me. The experience as a whole is also majorly beneficial to me from when I pursue my Graduate job.
The Company
It's quite busy as we get a lot of students coming in and inquiring about things. But during exam period it's quiet but there's always something to do.
The organisation is quite organised as we have systems on the computer in which we record and track so that there is no confusion.
At the start, although I did not receive much training, the organisation did invest time in me and still do as I get given the responsibility to take the lead of projects etc,.
Flexi Time
National Travel
As there are not graduate positions within the department I work in, I can always look for a position within the wider department or the University as a whole. I can always come back and work as a casual worker too./
The Culture
As there's not many of us there's not ,much of a soc ial scene but me and my manager get along well.
Cost of living is fine as I use public transport and live at home. As my placement is in Birmingham, I still socialise with my friends.
Birmingham nightlife is pretty decent, A lot of the clubs are based near each other too so it's convenient to bar crawl.
Although I live in Birmingham already, there are many places you can visit and try different activities.
