Overview
My colleagues and I would meet with our project manager, as we were of course part of the student project office and he overlooked us. We would MS Teams call every day and were given tasks to complete throughout the week. On some days these tasks were brainstorming ideas for the university, related to sponsorships or building growth.
Skills
An integral skill that I was definitely able to build during this placement is the skill of team-building. During some sessions the group was unsupervised and given tasks to complete throughout the week. Similarly, every member of the team had their own tasks to complete, which strengthened my independent skills.
Business Insight
It was definitely eye opening, originally the world of project management to me felt foreign and confusing. I thought it would be a lot more complicated than it actually was.
Culture
It was good for the most part, a lot of people were likeminded students, so having genuine interactions with them can be a hit or a miss sometimes. But the relationship building with my boss was good.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it quite a lot. For the most part, the simplicity of it drew me in, and by the time it finished and we were given our final tasks, I felt quite nostalgic about it.
Yes
Do not procrastinate on your studies or placements. Getting these things done early is paramount in succeeding and climbing to the next level.
