    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship. The work I completed was always varied and interesting, especially as I worked on several clients throughout the six weeks. I was also always working in different teams, and therefore given the opportunity to work with different people. Through this, I met and built strong relationships with multiple people, and therefore found the internship very sociable as well.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt like part of the team when working with my colleagues. They always made me feel included and didn't treat me differently just because I was the intern. I was always invited to social events or to have lunch with them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Due to the nature of my internship, I was never actually in the office, and therefore unable to speak to my manager directly. However, it was made clear from the start that I could contact my manager through emails or an internal chat programme if I had any queries or problems. Therefore, although the support and guidance available was not direct and face to face, I felt confident that I could easily contact someone if needed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the first week of my internship I was placed in the office, so working on clients from the office rather than at their sites. Doing this meant I was not as busy and occupied as I would have liked, and felt that I was left unoccupied sometimes, despite asking my colleagues for work do to. However, as soon as I was working at client sites - which was a majority of my internship - I always had things to do, and was rarely left unoccupied.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Considering my lack of prior knowledge of audit before starting my internship, I felt that I was given a huge amount of responsibility. The work I was completing was work that an associate would complete themselves, and therefore I was obviously trusted and viewed as competent to complete the work myself. All the work that I completed was signed off by myself, therefore showing that I was the one who did it.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • All of the skills I developed and the training I received will assist me whilst I complete my third year at university, as well as when I finish university. Throughout my internship I spent a lot of time using Excel, with is a programme I use in several of my university modules, and so the skills I have learnt from using it for different purposes during my internship will lend themselves well to its use at university too. Additionally, I spent two days at a presentation workshop which gave me useful tips for completing my end of internship presentation, as well as presentations I will give at university and in the future, The nature of my internship also meant that I spent a lot of time talking to clients, allowing me to build relationships with them and develop my confidence. Both of these will be important in future situations at university and after university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In the office it was always quite and no one really spoke so it was a bit dull. However, when working at clients it was more relaxed and so we had conversations whilst completing our work.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised. I always knew in advance where I would be, and had my accommodation booked.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt the company invested a lot in me, treating me like an actual employee rather than an intern. Throughout the internship I attended a training day, a two day workshop and an engagement day.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am very attracted to a future job with the company, particularly due to the amount invested in me despite me only being at the firm for 6 weeks.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • To an extent yes, as a social event was organised for the interns at the beginning of the internship. As well as this, I spent a few days with some of them at a training workshop. However, apart from this there wasn't any pre arrange social activities my the firm, and so it was up to the interns to organise social activities.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so the cost of living was free for me. Due to the location of the office it was difficult to social after work as it was based in a business park. Additionally, a majority of clients were based in business parks so socialising after work when based on a client site was also difficult.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was no nightlife in the area I worked.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • One activity outside of work was organised, which was the football tournament. This was easy to get involved in.
