The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Ford, I couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable experience.
Very valued. My suggestions were taking on board and the work I did was treated the same as an experienced engineer.
Any help I required was given, training was provided where needed and time was taken by my supervisor to help with anything I needed help with.
The nature of my job meant that there were some really busy times and other really quiet times. But overall I'd say there was a good balance of work, and was never too much to cope with.
I was given lots of responsibility. The work I carried out was used as the basis for the development of the vehicles, and the feedback I provided to the calibration teams was critical, as my work could have had a direct effect on the end product.
The skills and knowledge gained from my placement will be a massive help in all aspects of my future career. The opportunities to work as part of a team with experienced senior engineers, as well as being given the time to work on individual projects gave me a good idea of how life will be working in the automotive industry.
The Company
Yes, everyone was very friendly and welcoming from the start.
Aside from being informed of my placement relatively late, the induction and start of work was well laid out and made it easy to integrate into the workplace.
Ford invested far more than I had expected, and provided more than enough training, and was given the same development opportunities as a full time Ford employee, covering the costs of any training and trips.

Very appealing. I hope to return when I complete my degree.
The Culture
Yes. Regular meetings and social events were organised by/for the placement students and was supported by our supervisors.
I commuted from home so cannot comment on living costs. Socialising costs were reasonably low though.
I didn't often go out in the area at night as I didn't stay locally.
Yes.
