    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Walker Morris and felt that I really got a feel for the way the department operated, and the ethos of the firm as a whole. I had the opportunity to be involved in current matters and take on tasks that other fee earners would normally complete.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I always received feedback on the work that I had do. Furthermore, vacation scheme students were able to provide the firm with their opinion of the scheme at the end of the week by completing an assessment form, which implies the firm really cared about the experience of each vacation scheme student.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of guidance and support; a couple of members of the team took the time to explain to me what the department was about and what kind of work was undertaken, as well as explaining to me the different procedures involved in this type of work. There was also constant support from the trainees and members of HR.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement was extremely relevant to my legal studies and work life; as the department I was sat in overlapped with so many different areas. I feel I would be more well equipped to deal with the challenges of a training contract now that I have spent time in a different department.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was well structured. There were times where I was unable to contact my supervisor, however this is down to the nature of the job and there was always another member of the team available. I was never short of things to do and the placement was filled a variety of different events and assessments.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed; although everyone was extremely busy, I thought the experience accurately reflected the life of a corporate lawyer.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the company invested a lot in me; fee earners took the time to speak to me and were interested in what I wanted to know and achieve from the placement. Team members were also keen to let me know how I did with any given task.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I managed to speak to quite a few different employees within the department who informed me what their job role entailed; I could also see how the office worked and how the team worked with one another. I know I have a better understanding of the ethos of the firm.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • We not only received a talk regarding the firm's cultures and values, but from watching the department for a week I was able to see the firm's values in action - each member of the team was hard working and dedicated to the firm. At the same time, the firm is happy to let employees have down time; we were invited to after work socials three times during the one week placement.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I think the content showed what kinds of work the company deals with, therefore I could make an informed decision as to whether I could do this type of work in the future, and whether I could fit into a company like this.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Everyone is paid for completing the vacation scheme.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Despite everyone being very busy, I was able to speak to a lot of different employees. Students were also invited to three different after work social events.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social events were relaxed and allowed everyone the opportunity to speak to people from different departments that they would not normally get the chance to speak to.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was a presentation on the types of activities that employees can get involved in - such as charity and sports.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes I would recommend it, because it has been really useful and relevant to my future training and employment.
