    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really did enjoy my placement, I am sad for it to be ending and believe I have got a great deal out of it. I feel the week has gone so quickly, and the department I have been sat in have been so welcoming and really given me an invaluable insight into Walker Morris.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Yes, I was given a mix of real client work and assessments to complete during my time and felt that when I was completing a piece of work it was genuinely wanted/needed by the firm and the department. The department and the wider trainees were so welcoming and inclusive at every point.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Every task/piece of work was accompanied by a huge amount of support and explanation. Some things I had to figure out by myself, which was good and a challenge, but all the feedback was vastly helpful. I also felt okay with asking for more explanation on certain tasks from different people.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The work has definitely been of interest, as I am currently studying Company law it has been interesting to see the legal theory and content of the course being used in practice. It has been a benefit to me not only as a practical source of revision, but also enlightening me to the different variations of banking and commercial finance – seeing how these different departments and areas of law work together has been an eye-opener on the potential areas of law I wish to go in to. This is an area I would consider now and want to know more about, whereas before I would not have thought this was the type of work that I would have found stimulating.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The structure was clearly well thought out and clear every step of the way. Being given the time table way in advanced was a useful way to understand what was going to happen throughout the week. Having the assessments spread out as a good way to ensure that they could each be approached well.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very friendly and approachable. There is no doubt about the firm being a socially centered firm, and the way all the trainees and departments really want to get you know you really comes across and is something I appreciate. There is still a strong work ethic that is apparent throughout all sectors of the firm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invited me to sit in on some of the training, on a topic I had expressed interest in and found topical. The week also did teach me to be more confident in asking people for different types of work and developed my legal skills in applying to real case work.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Just in understanding the layout of the firm and the way the senior members interact with the junior ones was really helpful. I feel like the placements exposed me to how a real job in the firm would work in the firm. Being able to go out of office to the courts and other client based work also helped this.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • As already stated in previous answers, the social element was really emphasized here and the client focus was again something that really came across strong from the week placement. being heavily able to have contact with the trainees was a really good way to show us first hand the firms culture.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social event was my favorite event / part of the week. It was a really good way to let our hair down while still getting to know the trainees and partners. Being part of the groups event and ensuring the firm had a social side was definitely something I was looking for in my firm.
