  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The placement was very enjoyable and you can tell that the whole process is designed to get the best out of everyone. The work given to me was interesting and varied and there were lots of opportunities to speak to partners/trainees about what they do and learn a bit more about the culture of the firm.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I was given a number of jobs to do whilst on my placement with Walker Morris and was kept busy. After I had finished a task/job given to me, I was always provided with good constructive feedback and was thanked for my assistance. I really appreciated that. The work allocated to me was real work that needed doing. It wasn't made up, or just given to me to keep me busy.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the work placement scheme with Walker Morris I received a lot of support and guidance from numerous fee earners at the firm. If I needed help with anything, I could asked my supervising partner or trainee and they were more than happy to take time to sit down and give their advice/opinion.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During my work placement with Walker Morris, I have developed a number of skills. These include, communication skills, legal research skills, negotiation skills, analytical skills, commercial thinking and a broader understanding of commercial litigation. I am currently undertaking the LPC as well as working for a costs litigation firm. The skills I have learnt on my vacation scheme will undoubtedly assist me in those areas.

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight day was particularly well structured and you can tell that it is designed to get the best out of people. Upon arriving, we were given a really helpful notebook for our week, which included a time table, details of trainees and supervising partners and some useful information about the firm. Throughout the week there were activities such as a timed written assessment, trainee drinks, a negotiations skills exercise and a short one to one talk about your experience.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere during the work placement was friendly and professional. Everyone I met who worked at the firm was easy to talk to and approachable. All of the vac schemers got on really well together and were very personable. Overall, Walker Morris seems like a fantastic place to work and develop your career as a lawyer and this is largely due to the positive culture that eminates across the firm.
