  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On my first week my managers organised a one to one training day with a trainee in order for me to try understand the system better. Supervisors and other memebers at reception would show and tell me what they are doing as i was shadowing them. Collegues also printed some handouts for me to help me learn such as remarks and training pack.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start the hotel was busy most days so I wasn't hand on for me as I took more of a shadowing role watching and taking notes to help me. The more further into my placement I was given more roles and responsibilities making my workload more.. Now I have a good understanding of the what needs to be done on the front desk as well as documents for accounts purpose.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The more further into my placement I was given more roles and responsibilities making my workload more. At the start I would be told to watch and take notes but now my managers and supervisors expect me to be able to do the tasks now.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Having to learn about different types of guest and their needs on a daily basis has helped me to understand the different ways in which to deal with this such as personal approach or through email/telephone. Being on placement has shown me the attention to detail that is required to my role and towards the guest. Working in this industry I have met a variety of differne tpeople that I wouldnt have met before so I feel this has improved my communication skills and confidence. Learning about the system is important as I didnt expect this at all. The system is quite complex and is vital that you know how to use it in order to succeed in your role.
