    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found that you shape your own placement year. I was able to have a choice in what I wanted additional courses in, departments I wanted to sit in with and they were really flexible when it came to the end of my year and I was seeking further work experience. Like most jobs, there are aspects I didn't particularly enjoy, but you learn what these areas are and how you can overcome these troughs and appreciate the peaks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I didn't feel like a placement student at all! A lost of colleagues hadn't realised I was on placement and were surprised when I said I was back off to uni! I was treated like any other employee by all levels of employees and not once felt like 'just a placement student'!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I worked really closely with my manger (in work load, and literally). She was able to guide, advise and teach me in all areas of the job as she really knew her stuff! As we sat opposite I was able to constantly ask questions and never felt without guidance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • With my role, I was made aware at interview that due to changes within the business, they weren't too sure yet exactly how the role would work out and would be a case of seeing how it went along. After a few months of being within the role, I found myself being a bit short of a workload and asking if there was anything further for to do. Although, as the year went on and I was able to learn and pick up more responsibility, I found myself with a much fuller day and juggling multiple tasks throughout the day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like I had a good level of responsibility for a placement year. I had enough to make me feel like I was bringing value to the business and had a purpose in the department, and I didn't go home worrying and having sleepless nights over taking on too much.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've learnt so much within the year, not just how to do the job, but life skills from; office politics, office behaviour, meetings, how to deal with different people - higher management, customers, suppliers, partners etc... The list goes on!

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was in a small office and we all got along well, and I was able to fit in quickly with the office jokes! We all worked hard, but still had the chance to chat about our weekends. I think the director made tea more often than I did!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I knew when I took on the role it would be a case of seeing what would be left for me to do rather than having a set placement. Sounds unorganised, but i think it may have worked in my favour, I was able to tailor the placement around me and my knowledge and skills and pick up more tasks and responsibility as I was ready for it and could fit it around my existing tasks.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I could go on any and every course Panasonic provided - time management, project management, presentation skills etc. I was able to sit in with different departments to see what they get up to and they were great and so understanding of having days off site to seek further work experience for once I had finished my year.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I don't think I would be able to go back to a similar role, but I feel like I've left my mark with them, so you never know!

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only placement student at my office. However at the head office, the other students were based and I felt really welcome and part of the student scene.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was luckily enough to be able to live at home with my parents, and I've always lived in the area. The town where I was based is a small student town and I was able to get out and about to keep myself busy.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Its only a small student town, but with plenty of bars and clubs. As it was the only student I didn't socialise often with colleagues, but we had a great Christmas do, and I was often invited out to celebrate birthdays etc!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was the odd night out, but there wasn't anything organised as an outside of work activity. This didn't bother me as I had my family in the areas and friends that I had been to school and sixth form with, so I didn't ever feel like there wasn't something for me to do.
