    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work was interesting and engaging, it was challenging at times but thats good as it keeps you engaged and stops you from getting bored. As with any job there are always going to be tasks that you may find boring but they are countered with the more fun tasks. The team were so friendly and always up for a laugh and I was able to travel with work too which was great. I felt like my work was valued and had an impact on the business which is rewarding and makes you want to put your whole effort into all you do. Overall it has been a great year!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team were super welcoming from the moment I arrived, they made me feel like I could ask silly questions and were always up for a chat and a laugh. I feel more like friends with many of them rather than colleagues which makes coming into work more enjoyable. I also felt like my work was valued and the fact that people would come to me for help made me feel like I was a trusted member of the team

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I needed support it was available and I never felt scared to ask for help from anyone. Its a very collaborative work space and people are always working on projects together. If your work was done well you would be praised and if you needed to change something you would be told in a way that didn't make you feel bad about it but rather in a way that taught you how to improve it. They recognize that you are a student and that you are here to learn.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days would be slow and others you would be rushed off your feet, it really depends on what is going on. If you have an event coming up or a large project coming to a close you could be working non-stop but I preferred this to when you had not much to do as you get bored when you have no work, but luckily this wasn't too often, the majority of the time you would have enough work to keep you from being bored but not too much that you were stressed.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was thrown straight into the deep end and given a lot of responsibility right from the beginning. It was scary at first because I didn't want to mess up but after a couple of months I started to become confident with my work and the level of responsibility was a good thing, it felt like a proper job and I was integral to the business, not just making coffee and doing photocopies.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Academically I have learnt are few things or used stuff from my degree, but the biggest takeaway from this year has definitely been life skills. Over the year I have developed a work ethic that I will take back to uni that will hopefully help me to get a high grade in my degree. I also learnt how to be more organised and manage my time well. Finally I learnt people skills, how to speak to people in a professional way and also how to network and build relationships.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was friendly and fun, the dress code is fairly relaxed which surprised me and the atmosphere is collaborative with lots of people working together. You could go in and have a chat and a laugh with everyone but if you were busy you could crack on with work and people would respect that too.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement is very well set up, you know exactly what is going to happen and you are always given plenty of notice for things and there is a lot of communication with the people who run it. They also recognize you are a student and allow you time off to go back up to uni to complete any work you need to do to pass your year at uni too.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given so many opportunities for training and development, when we started we had several full training days on all the programs we were going to use over the year, we also had the opportunity to complete charity work. You are able to complete courses and get qualifications such as the CIM. You are given targets that are reviewed over the year and there are plenty of opportunities for your manager to give you feedback. I was very impressed with the training.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is no official grad scheme but there are full time employees who were placement students in the past, depending on how my degree goes and what I plan to do in the future, I would strongly consider coming back to Panasonic. I have really enjoyed my year so would be happy to work here in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are a lot of placement students here and we have been on a few nights out, the closest town is reading so I can be difficult to get home from, we have also been to the races and on nights out after events with colleagues. If you decide to live with other students its good fun and you have people who are in the same boat as you.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area is average, its just outside of London so its not super cheap and there isnt a huge amount to do so during the week it can be quite boring. There are a few local pubs and a shopping center but thats about it. If you want something more lively you would need to head to Windsor or Reading or London. The travel links to these places are ok, it takes about an hour to get to Waterloo by train.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Theres a few pubs but thats it. During the week this is ok as if you want to just go for a couple of drinks after work or to watch some football its nice. If you want to go out you need to go to reading, its a quick train into Reading but getting home can be annoying a cab is about £30/40 so it can be quite a pricey night out.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were given the opportunity to complete charity work and this was organised by the students, there were also opportunities to play football and we would always get emails about things going on such as runs at lunch time, yoga sessions, massages, body tracking and many more, so there were definitely opportunities.
