    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall had an excellent time. Really good opportunities for learning and development, an interesting and varied workload and a high level of responsibility given.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Placement students within the company and utilised well to contribute to real work meaning that I felt valued during my time at the company.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was on a rotation scheme and therefore had 4 different managers. I felt that two were excellent while two were not quite as good, however overall the support in place for placement students is very well organised and catered for.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I found day to day work to be a good balance of being busy but enjoyable. In general, the office atmosphere is fairly relaxed and positive while you are still expected to pull your weight and get stuck in.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was given as much responsibility as possible for someone at my stage in the careers. I was given the opportunity to make key engineering and financial decisions that directly impacted my project as well as the company.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I attended many training courses which developed a very high level of understanding in areas such as turbocharger aerodynamics, material science and statistics. While these may only be useful to studies if you choose to pursue study in the specific areas, the 'soft skills' that are developed both in an taught environment as well as through day to day work are of a great benefit both to further study and working life in general.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Varied between departments but this is a personal perspective on individuals rather than the company as a whole. In two of the departments I worked in the atmosphere was very positive and welcoming. That is not the say the others were negative, I just felt more at ease in certain departments.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised placement structure including a rotation plan that was developed with my views in mind to ensure I worked were I wanted to gain experience. Quarterly reviews held and an overall review system used to assess suitability for sponsorship and assist with personal development.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Many opportunities to attend training courses - the company clearly believes in personal development and not just ensuring you are working every hour of the day.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Good sponsorship and employment prospects. 1 in 3 engineering placement students were awarding with sponsorship this year.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Occasional nights out organised within some teams for food and/or drinks. A bit more of a social scene between the placement students and graduates.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Huddersfield is very reasonable in terms of living and socialising costs although the rental prices are slightly inflated due to the large student presence.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • An OK nightlife but very mainstream

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of work based sports are organised for outside of work time which I was involved with.

    3/5
