The Role
Freedom and flexibility of working as well perks such as company car and good pay were positives. As was the range of eqipment worked on as an insight into the medical industry, would have prefered to have had some rotation into different business areas, design, head office, call center etc to get a better idea of how the business worked and general experience. 12 months shaddowing (which was originaly laid out when I started) would have been too long so I am thankfull that further training was provided as this gave me an oppertunity to work by myself devoloping problme solving skills.
Management shift during placement under no real fault of company left me without a clear supervisor to report to
Some weeks completely dead with very little work which was interesting or of use, some weeks are incredibly long and lots and lots of work again isnt always interesting however high volume of hours
Training was given so I could work by myself which was above my expectations however this was not always used due to volume of engineers available
Maintainance and design therefore is an important part of design as well as the dissasembly and studying of equipment being usefull to note the composition of philips equipment however I would not reccomend this as fully relevant unless a career in maintainance engineering is your goal
The Company
Did not work from an office so cannot fully comment however time spent there was good.
Not organised as a placement, just working as a trainee engineer, no real oppertunity to get involved in other business areas, however by request this has been mentioned it may be possible towards the end
Paid for training in Holand which was great for personal development within the business
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Car
International Travel
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Dependant on the job however future employment has been mentioned and philips as a company I feel is a good company to work for.
The Culture
Due to remote working I am the only placement student in the region so no social events
Reasonable, could be cheaper as you can locate flexably within the region to a point.
Bristol,(as my choice) is a fantastic place to live
Not through philips
