    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had an amazing placement year, my team and colleagues were all very supportive and helpful and I gained a great deal of knowledge and experience which will benefit me in both my last year of university and my career. I was given a great deal of opportunities and was able to get involved in many projects which I found of interest, especially events. I had such a good year, I am now THereturning to Philips next year to complete the Graduate Scheme.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were absolutely amazing and anytime I helped them with a project or task they were always very grateful for my help. It made the working envrionment very positive and allowed me to get involved in any other projects I was interested in and got to know the whole team in the office,

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given supervision and guidance quite a lot during the start of my placement, but throughout the course of the year my manager started to leave me to get on with it as I became familiar with the tasks i had to carry out and didn't need constant support. However if I ever needed it both my supervisor and any other team memeber were always willing to help if I needed it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a good level of work given to me throughout my placement, obviously depending on particular times of year it can be busier or quieter, but there is always something to do and if you have too much, the rest of the team and more than happy to help.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • After i had proved to my colleagues and manager that I could deliver on task they set me, they gradually began to give me more and more responsibly. Particularly during the last 4 months of my placement, I was responsible for many different important projects which I managed on my own.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a great deal of valuable skills whilst on placement which will be a great benefit to me in the future. Through the important role I had within the business, I improved my organisation and time management skills as well as my confidence when dealing with other colleagues and customers.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office has a very friendly and fun atmosphere which made me look forward to going to work everyday!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was organised pretty well, it didn't have a structure so to speak but I had a set role of responsibilties and then had the opportunity to get involved in other projects and segments that I was interested in.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a reasonable amount of personal training available whilst I was on my placement and I also took part in various team building activities.

    4/5

  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a place on the graduate scheme to return to once I finish my degree!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are not many other placement students but there are a fair amount of graduates and everyone is very friendly and they often arrange nights out between them.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Guildford is a very expensive area being close to London, so living costs are fairly expensive but there are many house shares and other graduates etc that you can live with.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is reasonable, there are a few clubs and bars within Guildford. But only being half an hour from London, there are plenty of other places outside of Guildford which are of easy reach.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a very good amount of activites to get involved in both in and outside of work. They have a sports and social club membership where they hold an event every month or so where everyone can have a night out or go to a comedy club etc.

    4/5
