    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the level of responsibility and trust which was given to me throughout my placement. I was able to take on challenging projects and develop a wide range of transferable and valuable skills.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Any achievements were always recognised and I felt as though my contribution within the Press & PR team was valued and respected. I was treated as a normal employee, given the same level of responsibility and pressure, which I really enjoyed and thrived under the fast-paced nature of the role.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager, and Director of Communications, was superb in offering me support and guidance when needed, yet allowing me the independence to act on my initiative and make decisions based on my own experience and knowledge. I always felt comforted in the knowledge that I could turn to him and ask for his advice if necessary, but that he would trust my judgement and evaluation of a task and to act in an appropriate manner.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The job was fast-paced which kept me constantly on my toes and meant that every day was different. The job was extremely exciting and always interesting, and allowed me a wonderful opportunity to experience a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities. I was able to work with lots of different people, both within the company and externally by communicating with other organisations and companies. This greatly developed my confidence and communication skills which have proved invaluable since finishing my placement.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was trusted to head up a new and exciting webinar project which was a huge level of responsibility. I relished the opportunity to be put under pressure and succeed, feeling incredibly privileged and lucky to have been trusted with such a huge task which further fuelled my desire to make the project a success and ensure I met the high expectations of my director, and others within the company.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a huge number and wide variety of skills, as well as growing in confidence and developing many personal skills. My ability to communicate and present were hugely improved, as well as skills of negotiation, time management, organisation and planning. Everything that I learnt during my time at Peninsula Business Services has proven to help in my degree, as the ethos of working hard to achieve success is a key lesson which I learnt during my placement. When applying for graduate schemes, my newly developed communication skills and confidence during interviews and within presentations and group exercises have been clearly noted by assessors and has helped me reach the final stages of many applications.

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work with Peninsula Business Services again, with the hope to continue to work on previous projects I have been involved in and continue to develop strong and positive relationships within the company.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Moral within the company was always high, with free weekly exercise classes offered which created a wonderful opportunity for colleagues throughout the huge company, who may not otherwise meet, to mix and build relationships. There were also 'Friday night drinks' every week which encouraged everyone within the company to socialise out of office hours and build friendships which clearly filtered back into the workplace environment and encouraged positive relations and a really strong office moral.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living and socialising was reasonable, which meant that joining in with any organised events was easy and there was no worry that, financially, I would be unable to participate.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Brilliant, varied, nightlife with a huge diversity of live music venues, clubs and bars which created a wonderful atmosphere with something to suit everyone.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was involved in the free fitness class every week which was fantastic. I was able to meet people from various departments within the company and build relationships spanning the entire organisation which I would have been unable to do without the opportunity of getting involved with the class. There was a social committee which organised specific events for the company, which again created the perfect opportunity for employees to mix and meet others within the organisation in a relaxed, less formal, environment.
