    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was set proper work. This meant that I was able to see how legal study relates to legal practice. The people made me feel very welcome.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The tasks set were not of an "office boy" variety. I was not chained to a photocopier for the week, nor was I made to make cups of tea. I felt like a trainee, just with less experience. My research actually helped the fee earners.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given plenty of suport. Whilst I obviously wanted to use my initiative, I was never made to feel like I couldn't ask for help, and when I did, they were really helpful.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The department was rather quiet, as a large deal had closed the week before. However, I found this useful as it gave me plenty of time to complete my tasks. I had not studied tax law previously, so I was starting from scratch. I was therefore pleased that I had enough time to "learn on my feet".

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given roughly the same level of responsibility as a first seat trainee, which is all the responsibility you could ever really ask for!

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Doing research into an area that I had never studied before increased my research skills. I was also using resources that I hadn't used before. I also developed the skill of drafting letters to clients.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a bit quiet in terms of work, but the atmosphere was still good. The firm made an effort to take us on nights out. It was the right balance between being professional without being intimidating.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Clear timetable. I always knew what I was supposed to be doing, and where the various workshops etc were being held.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was only there for a week so investment oporunities were somewhat minimal. In terms of the skills that I developed though, they will prove in very useful. I also received very useful career advice.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I definately want a job there

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were taken out by trainees and partners twice. As a group of vacation students, we all got on really well and organised after work drinks ourselves

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I had a student house in the area, so living costs were minimal. General expense was what you expect from a city such as Leeds. On the two times we went out with the firm, they paid so expense was minimal.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There's so much to do in Leeds at night. For an example, during the week we went to a sports bar, a vodka bar, a traditional pub, an underground chinese restaruant and two standard professional-type bars.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I wa sonly there for a week. However, the opportunity to go Dragon-boating was offered!

    4/5
