The Role
I really enjoyed this internship and am very sad to be leaving. Most of all, I enjoyed the actual work I was doing. It was a really good experience to have multiple tasks and take ownership of certain projects, researching about projects the Movement runs and writing about it to contribute to the work the Red Cross does. In addition to this, it was great working as part of the team and being meeting all the different members of staff, meeting different interns, talking to various people in the organisation about their role, the training that was provided, lunch-time talks, service visits, attending various meetings. Overall, I enjoyed feeling like an integrated member of the Red Cross and High Value Giving, being part of such a valued and extensive organisation, and being able to contribute my own creativity/input to this.
Very well, I was not treated inferior or patronised at all but rather as just another staff member. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful in the begining and further on in the internship when there were particular things I wanted to be involved in or gain an insight in I was always supported and allowed to. The tasks given to me by them were not menial or token but helpful to their work and perfect for my level of experience/expertise.
The whole structure was very well thought through in terms of what I needed from the role and support/guidance ran throughout. The internship co-ordinator, team administrator and my line-management were very good at introducing me to the role, to other staff/interns, on-going training, on-going supervision and advise, and allowing me to experience different things within the organisation.
Had constant and multiple tasks which was up to me to manage but it was never overwhelming and there was always things to do. At times there was lacking tasks which felt like a bit of a waste of time but that was only temporary and demonstrates that all tasks I had were helpful to the staff members. When given tasks they were properly exlpained and always felt in control/on-top of them.
I was given a good amount of responsibility, had my own tasks and responsibilities to take ownership but felt like I could have handled a bit more responsibility. Especially as the internship wore on, I would of liked to of been given more tasks to manage of a higher caliber as a I got more into it. But I was never stresses or felt useless so it was generally very good.
I have gained new contacts and friends with the other interns and colleges that I’ve met/worked with. I have also gained direct experience of office work, managing multiple tasks, research and writing skills, communications, team work, minute taking, monitoring and evaluation, software training, project management. Mostly though I have gained an insight for working within a major humanitarian organisation and learnt a lot from meeting various people/attending various things. These are skills I wanted to gain before I joined and things I think will help me throughout my professional career.
The Company
Very good, it was relaxed and comfortable with casual dress codes, fun staff, and a good atmosphere of approachability and kindness. It was also at the same time professional and intellectual so good environment to be in!
Very well, there was a internship co-ordinator to ensure there was adequate introduction and a smooth transition into the placement, a team administrator who was very friendly with any issues and organising activities/insights throughout the placement, and a line-manager who was great at providing on-going support and giving tasks.
All training and opportunities were open to interns, and have had training throughout the placement even if it was not relevent to my job. If there was every something I wanted to get involved with personally everyone was very supporting in accomaditing that and allowing my inclusion so I gained a lot beyond my direct role.

Within my team there are a lot of ex-interns that have got jobs and a intern friend has just got a job so there is very good chances. However, it depends so much on what opportunities open up and you have to apply like everyone else. Nonetheless you stand a much better chance and team members will help your application.
The Culture
Built a very good social group with the other interns that I've met here and we are going out for drinks/ will keep in touch beyond the placement.
Office is in central London so everything is pricey - can't escape that! But the organisation do pay reasonable expenses so we're not out of pocket for lunch/travel.
London - best nightlife in the country.
Not much has gone on, but whenever there were away days, social activites, or travel visits I was invivited. Also, you can always organise your own thing, everyone here is really easy to get with.
