The Role
The internship was very well organised and I was offered full support throughout. The people I worked with were absolutely lovely and there were lots of opportunities to gain an insight into other departments as well.
People in my team were very friendly and I was given full responsibility from the start and treated as a valuable member of the team all throughout.
Was given lots of support and guidance. I've discussed my objectives with my supervisor at the start of the internship and had monthly 1-2-1 catch up meetings. People in my team were also always happy to help if I had questions.
Overall quite busy, which I always saw as a good thing as I prefer to be busy rather than bored. My supervisors always made sure I wasn't too overwhelmed though and it was very nice to know that if I didn't have time to do something right this second, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
A fair amount. I had sole ownership of a few minor projects that had to only be signed off by my managers, otherwise I had full responsibility for their completion.
I've definitely developed new skills and built on my existing ones, all of which will undoubtedly prove very useful in my future career.
The Company
It was a nice balance between work and play. :) People on my floor were always up for a chat, but there was no slacking off, everyone worked hard as well.
Very organised - full support given throughout, my objectives were clear from the start and there were opportunities to meet other interns as well, which was nice.
Interns had access to some development opportunities open to full-time staff, as well as special training events just for interns, all of which were very well organised, information was easy to find and my supervisors encouraged me to take full advantage of these opportunities while I was interning. If I could do it again, I would probably try and utilise these more.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Definitely very appealing - it is a wonderful organisation and the people that work there are just as wonderful.
The Culture
Not much of a social scene while I was there, i.e. not many things organised after work, but group lunches were popular, which was always fun.
Very expensive as everything is in London.
Wouldn't know as I am not much of a party person. I'm sure there were some nice places to go, but, again, would probably be quite expensive.
A fair amount as the British Red Cross has plenty of volunteering opportunities and these were always widely advertised.
