    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Getting to work across a number of different areas in a large company was an excellent experience. The days organised by the placement team were excellent and very useful. Despite not perhaps been given the exact role I was expecting at the start I still found this an enjoyable year and feel like I have taken a lot away from it.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As I worked in a number of different teams this often varied but on the whole I felt valued.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was no real structure to the 12 months, I was simply given work on an ad-hoc basis and often had to find my own work to do. This was beneficial in a way though as it allowed me to experience working across various different teams. I was also always encouraged to visit different sites, go on training courses and get involved in new projects.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This would vary from one extreme to another. I would have liked a more conistent workload.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again this often varied, sometimes I would just be watching what others were doing and seeing how they operate and other times I would be leading a project or task myself.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Undoubtedly the things I’ve learnt this year will help me in the future.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • This would vary depending on which team I was working in. There weren't many people of a similar age to me so that was a drawback but most people were friendly enough and the office atmosphere was good.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The days and project organised by the placement team were excellent, however at an operational level I don't feel like there was much organisation at all. It was always unclear what my exact role was as the role described at the assessment centre was a far cry from what I was actually doing.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was always encouraged to go on various courses to help develop myself. I was assigned a mentor as well who really helped me network within the company and go visit other offices and people.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is the opportunity to apply for the graduate scheme and get fast tracked to the assessment centres which I will definitely be trying to do!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As there was only two placements in Telford there wasn't a social scene at all.

    1/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Telford is fairly cheap for rent and socialising. However I didn't live there as there is very little to do in Telford. I lived in Birmingham and commuted on the train which was much more expensive but definitely worth it as there is a lot more going on in Birmingham i.e. there is more than one pub!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is one club and one pub in central Telford. As Telford is made up of various towns there are lots of pubs in the local area but all a drive away and where the offices are situated it's very slim pickings and therefore I never went out in Telford. Birmingham however is an excellent night out!

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were some opportunities but as I didn't live in Telford it was difficuly to get involved in any of them.

    4/5
