    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved it, was very fun and given demanding tasks. At times I was sat around bored with no work and wished that work flow was more constant over the period of the placement, but overall I enjoyed it and do not regret taking a year out to do this. I would do it again!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued, my colleagues would take their time out and help me when I needed it and there was always non-work related conversations going on. I really enjoy it the atmosphere around the office was ecstatic. I felt right at home and my colleagues helped me transition into the world of work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very busy all the time, however when he was at his desk I could easily approach him and ask any question that I needed to ask and he would happily help and answer them. He was very lenient and we would always laugh about stuff. I am thankful to have such a great manager.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were times were I was buried in work, constant work for days on end and there was time where I was sitting at my desk twiddling my thumbs with nothing to do. I just wish that work flow was more constant over the period of the placement, so that I would have allowed me to get the most out of my placement.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I was given tasks that if done wrong would result in a very costly thing for Fujitsu. I loved having this kind of responsibility and thrived under pressed and challenges. It allow me to build my resilience, time management and planning skills, all which re very important in industry.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My skills will allow me to plan around university studies. My communication skills will allow me to work more efficiently in projects and also my project management skills will play a role in here. I have gained a lot of skills over the duration of the year which I see vital after graduation.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I loved the energetic aura that was constant in my office, laughter, banter and serious conversations were taking place all the time. I loved it! I could easily have a relaxing chat with my colleagues sitting around me and this would help my motivation to do more work. I will truly miss this place when I leave.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Prior to starting my day to day job we were invited to a day long induction event a Fujitsu head office in London. This day consisted on ice breakers, background of the organisation, a few group task and a presentation. I Iiked this as it allowed me to get to know everyone else on the scheme and have a chat with them.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given access to the online training catalogue where I could book myself onto any training session and either partake online of travel to the location in person. Most training was free, however the priced ones were accommodated by Fujitsu as long as it is beneficial for your role and you can justify it.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • In my specific office there were 5 other placement students. We would hang around every lunch and talk about different sorts of stuff. prior to placement events at different locations. All of the placement students (around 25 of us) would communicate with each other and try and plan a night out prior.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Thankfully for me, I was based in the office which was located only around a 15 minute drive from my house. I could simply just drive in on the morning and not worry about being late. There are a few food shops nearby where I and the placements students would go. Most of the time we would travel to the local shopping centre for lunch every now and again.
