    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the placement, working at Fujitsu was fantastic! The amount of opportunities you are offered is great. I have been sailing and paintballing just to name a few. The people were great, everyone is approachable and is happy to help. I loved working 9-5 and the social life from work that goes with it. The work I was doing wasn't really related that much to my university degree is the only reason for 8 stars.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued and was noted as a curtail part of the team. People in the team valued the effort I put into work and would always say so. Fujitsu has a reward scheme called stars. Stars can be nominated by anyone, some of them come with a monitory value. I have had about 300+ in reward points. Your views are always welcome and they really appreciate your input. You are always seen as an employee rather than a placement.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support initially was quite limited. You could always ask questions. The different type of projects you work on can be completely different so teaching what is needed can be difficult. Overall very good support given.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Extremely busy! You are given a lot of work to do, at times it can be a massive juggling act with multiple projects on the go. There are quiet times but you should always have side projects to go to. Such as process improvements etc. I would recommend to have something on the side just in case. I will also help with your appraisal. The busiest time of the day for my team was usually just after lunch as customers normally respond around then.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • So much responsibility is given to you. A whole account was given to me after just 5 weeks! I have been to sign contacts with customers by myself. Visit sites and install equipment all on your own. Creating proposals worth 2M+ all within a year. They really put the pressure on you in a good way to take ownership for your work. They always ask if you are happy to do a specific task. They always give support so just go for it!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed a variety of technical and non technical transferable skills whilst working for Fujitsu. I have gained so much confidence throughout the placement. I think the time management and technical skills used will help me at uni and future work. I have been on multiple training courses related to my role.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was organised pretty well. The graduate leaders are extremely good and the events they put on are great. They get the whole cohort involed in every meeting. I really think the two guys do a great job at making everyone work together. The actual working side of the placement wasn't very structured. There wasn't really any key milestones or task that should have been achieved throughout the placement. More structure is needed in the individual jobs.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would really like to work at Fujitsu after my degree. The appraisal I had recently was extremely positive and made me want to come back to the company. They have given me the opportunity to try different areas of the business before my placement finishes. That will help me to build relationships with the teams I really want to work in.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are many opportunity's outside of work to get involved with. There's a graduate, placement and apprentice social event organised every 4 weeks where we all vote to do something. We usually go into town and have something organised such as food, go karting, cinema, drinks.... Anyone can suggest an idea which is great. Everyone is also in the same money situation so they are usually very affordable.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was pretty high in my area. My rent took up 75% of my wages each month. You don't really need that much to have good fun on though! I get a bit more than I had at uni which is good. Fujitsu pay for all your expenses when you are away or travel so you are never out of pocket. The wage is average for a placement but its plenty enough to live on. Every town has a weatherspoon so its pretty cheap! A London return is only £15.00.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A few but you really have to work to get them. The ones you do are usually really good.
