    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My work placement has been a great experience. This is my first opportunity to work within a multi-national company and learn new skills.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • No matter what position you are within the company, everyone is treated the same. Everyone listened to your opinions no matter how silly it may seem. As a placement most emplyoees that I have interacted with have offered me advice that I can use in the future.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a 5 weeek handover from the previous studnet which was very reassuring as it helped me settle into the role. My Manager has been very supportive throughout my placement and has answered all the many different questions that I have had. My Manager would keep an eye on the work load that I have to make sure that I am not overwhelmed and too make sure I have enough to keep me busy. Also not only has my manager been supportive but everyone on sit I feel comfortable going up to and asking for advice or information.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis I have a varying amuont of workload. The situation I was in on placement was different that usual which meant that my workload has fluxuated and changed a bit more than it should. However this has helepd improve my time management skills.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My placement has shown how much students are actually valued in the company. Students get the perception that they will be making cups of tea all day and doing the jobs that nobody else wants to do. However this is not true. The responsibility I have been given to get on with projects and given work to help out with project was a lot more than expected.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed looking back is great! I have gained so much more confidence than when I started. It has given me the experience in the work place that I have never had before. This placement year is a way to find out whether this is the type of career that I want to go for and it has definetly given me a better picture. Also the there are various training opportunities. I have been on many courses including, excel, assertiveness, time management, presentation skills and a few more. Where there has not been courses but I wanted to learn something new my manager has trained me. for example I wanted to understand more on created macros in excel using VBA and my manager was more than willing to help.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is pretty much what I expected in an office. Friendly co-workers asking how you getting on, how settling in to the placement and general get to know each other. More than willing to have a bit of a laugh. Always someone you can talk to.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Set up was very good. There have been lots of students in my role before so there was a plan set out ready for me to fit into.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

  • Due to changes in the company it will be unlikely that I will be working in this area of panasonic again.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were 16 students when I was on placement. However I am the only student in northampton and the others were all in Bracknell. So the situation I was in was very different than the other students. However when I did go on courses or travel to Bracknell I would see them all and have a catch up.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Again living was slighly differenet situation for me as I lived with my manager and didn't know anyone from Northampton. This meant that I didnt stay in Northampton much in weekends as I had friends all over the country so I just visited them and kept busy. There are people at work who are willing to meet up and go out for a laugh

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • No idea, I haven't been out in Northampton but I never really appealed to me. ended up going out in London more though!

  • Work does not really provide much organised outstide activities. Did do go-karting a couple of times and a few collegues have gone out a few times but thats about it.
