The Role
I really enjoyed the InPractice scheme as it had a good level of formal classroom-based training, on the job training and dispensing practice which was essential in getting me ready for the pre-registration year.
The tutors were excellent and were very helpful, this made the days all the more enjoyable.
The store managers would let us know how we were getting on with regards to our dispensing figures and also provide pastoral care during out placement.
I busy as I was expected to see a copious number of patients throughout the day.
As I was in my second year at university, we were given more responsibility and were expected to know how to advise customers accordingly.
This is where it really excelled! I learnt so much about optics in these few weeks which benefited me going back to university and also which I would carry forward to the pre-registration year.
The Company
There were a lot of young adults working in the store and we bonded immediately.
The programme was very structured with initial training and store experience following. I received all details from HR prior to the placement in advance.
The company provided a number of days of external and internal training as well as facilitating our stay at the store.
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I was accepted onto the Pre-Registration Programme after completing the summer placement.
The Culture
They organised events for all the placement students and this was well received by everyone!
The cost of living was expensive but it was manageable, packed lunches were a contributing factor.
I didn't get to sample too much of the nightlife when I was there.
The store had a few activities after work such as badminton nights/pub quiz nights.
