    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the experience, i did work experience for 2 weeks with supersavers and the people were really friendly and the options really inspired me to do consider optometry as a career choice. I learnt so much about testing eyes and using the different machines available to test different patients that came in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt like i was part of a team and i understood that team work is very important at supersavers. I was asked to participate in using the machines, packing glasses and sit in with different aspects of the job as well as sit at reception and help customers with there queries.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I learnt many different aspects about the job. I was allowed to pack glasses and vouchers, use the different eye machines for both taking pictures of the eyes and looking for an estimate of the degree of short/long sightedness. I also thought everyone helped me when i didn't understand any thing and aided me when using the machines

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It allowed be to consider optometry as a degree and do further research into that area as i knew that i wanted to do something clinical. It was a great insight into what i would be doing as an optician and what it would intale. I would throughly recommend to anyone else considering it even slightly.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • There was no day to day structure, it was mainly who and what was available to shadow and what was most interesting/ what i hadn't seen yet. However, i didn't mind this as i thought it was still overall good and interesting when new patients came in to be reviewed.

    2/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was not paid for the placement as it was work experience therefore the company didn't invest in me. However they offered me a leaflet for there apprentaship programme which i was very interested in. it had many pros and was a great options for those considering. i think they pay you well during the apprentaship.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Honestly, it was a great insight. i showed me exactly what being an optician would be like and what it intails and was the work life balance is like. i think its an excellent career choice because of this placement and i would recommend it to others. I also feel that the apprentaship option is a great opportunity and it has inspired me to study it at university

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I live locally therefore i did not require fees for travel food or lunch. it was a great opportunity and i was given that option. i think it is important that companies offer this as some people cannot afford to travel all the way to placement. so it is good that they offer this.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • i meet other people that worked there and different team members. i met the opticians which i asked for there email addresses for further advice in the career and if i had any questions that i could not think of right away. i also was able to ask other peoples experiences

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • This question is not relevant as i was only there for 2 weeks. i believe that supersavers have social events and networking oppurtinties however that the staff throughly enjoy. i could see it was a tight knit community and that everyone got along very well, i think that everyone had these oppuntitys

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • The staff didn't really talk about this however, as was focusing more on the supersavers job aspects and the clinical aspects, However they have annual meeting and events that if you were an apprentice you can meet others at different events much like at university. Obviously they host annual events but as an insight work experice student i was not invited.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
