The Role
The Pre-Reg year is a year in practice after uni for optometrists to take their final exams pre-qualification and my placement as extremely challenging at times but a great experience on the whole.
Extremely valued as I was one of the more knowledgeable members of staff. Optical assistants and other optometrists were also extremely welcoming and supportive.
We are assigned a supervisor whom reviews our work and in essence coaches us during the year.
I always had a busy clinic due to the location right in the middle of a busy town.
You are given full responsibility for your patients and their care.
This year has greatly enhanced my interpersonal skills as well as developed my empathy and patience with patients!
The Company
The general atmosphere in the practice was good. It was always busy so there was never a dull moment!!!!
HR were great we were always told in advance of the courses we needed to attend.
The company invested a significant amount in courses and payment for all my professional exams.
Company Parties/Events
Future prospects are encouraging given my feedback.
The Culture
The Pre-reg students got the chance to meet up occasionally on courses but other than that there was not much interaction.
I lived at home which significantly helped and I would recommend it!
Good but didn't get much chance to go out as the year was pretty intense.
Not really apart from the odd social event with your colleagues.
