  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is mostly technical, which involves studying various motor geometries, conducting hardware tests, and some scripting as well which I use to automate certain tasks.

  • I have learned quite some new skills, including ANSYS, MotorCAD, how to properly conduct tests, Project Management. I have also significantly improved my coding ability using MATLAB and Python on a regular basis.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes and No, I was mostly learning during my Placement, on how various motors operate, since this was a new area of research for me, and it took me some time to get the hang of things. After that I was involved in the current project by doing some tasks externally and submitting those to my manager, which were part of a bigger project.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The support I got during my placement was invaluable. Though at times it seemed I was kind of stuck, but my manager helped me and guided me along. Everyone in our team is very supportive and if I have any issues I can just ask them any time and I would be sure to receive some help.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is like what you expect a huge organization to be. But what I like about Cummins is that since it has presence in my home country India as well, it kind of feels like home. And that is the most appealing part of Cummins in my opinion.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Towards the start of my placement, I was kind of struggling to keep up with the new environment and work culture, but with the support of my manager and our team, I was quickly able to get a hang of it and after that I enjoyed it a lot. It wasn't all cakewalk, I got stuck quite a lot, but I count it as a part of a learning experience.

  • Cummins has many roles available for someone looking for a placement, be it engineering or business. Cummins has something available for everybody. And the best part of it is you don't need much experience, just a willingness to learn and self-starting attitude will do.
