    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • research assistant: carrying out the experiment individually and cooperatively for data collection and creating the questionnaires used in said experiments. Carrying out basic data analysis for fMRI data. A day followed like this: Interacting with participants Setting up the EEG and EMG Recording EGG and EMG data Thresholding of pain Administering pain (electrical stimuli)

  • I have learned patient-researcher interaction and have gained experience with being in a professional environment. I have improved my welcoming skills like small talk and greeting participants. Problem-solving in a professional environment, specifically in pain research

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given as much responsibility as I asked for, I chose to have as much as possible so I was given an experiment to carry out individually. I chose to do as much as I could for the data collection (EMG set-up...) and even now I can choose to help with data analysis and writing out the paper

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received the basics on how to operate anything we used and how to interact with the participants. I was given instructions and walked through them. They were very supportive in the sense that even with non-placement related topics they would help out. They created a very safe space for me to ask anything when needed.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was a really safe and supportive space. Everyone helped out each other and was professional when needed. CINN overall is just very helpful to everyone and friendly.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement because it allowed me to explore a lot of topics and gain a lot of experience and contacts that I still use now. I enjoyed learning how to use the machinery and software used in the study and how to set up the pain device and EMG/GSR

  • Network within the facility, everyone here actually wants to help you and they are more than happy to as a lot of them are looking to recruit for Phds. Ask lectures or staff about their area of research and try to find ways to get experience within the uni. CINN lab is amazing for that and they're always looking for people.
