    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I frequently submitted drafts of my work to Dr Rebecca Cheung, which we then went through and discussed in our weekly meetings. However, I felt that I lacked support and felt dismissed when being told that I needed to put in more work and seeing how much more praise and support my colleague was getting

    Culture

  • We only saw each other in person in our weekly meetings, which felt comfortable but could sometimes be a little tense or awkward. Other than that, we worked primarily on our own which I was happier with.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Overall, I can say that there were parts of my placement which I thoroughly enjoyed, mainly the specific content I was learning and researching for my project. Otherwise, I felt that the placement lacked motivation and energy, and was quite monotonous when completing the same work almost every week.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to University of Reading
  • When applying for placements in the PY2PCP module, start looking and applying as soon as you can, as soon as the Summer just before second year starts. I had a fair amount of stress last minute looking for a placement I thought I would enjoy.
