    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I am responsible for selecting the interns for the summer that follows, which normally starts in August. I work directly with the TA manager every day to discover candidates from within and beyond the organisation. Additionally, I put a lot of effort into initiatives like employer branding outside of social media, recruitment process optimisation, and social media marketing. Despite the fact that each day is different, some crucial tasks include planning candidate trainings, focusing on student charities, creating and gathering surveys, and arranging interviews. Because I am a part of the bigger HR team, I can network with a variety of people and positions.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Even though I have only been at JDE for a short while, I have already improved my communication abilities among other things. Being an HR intern makes me a valuable resource for my fellow interns in particular when they have questions. Due to the fact that I am continuously contacting new people to gather the necessary information, this has improved my communication skills. However, communication is also essential in my day-to-day job when completing duties like organising interviews when multiple associates are involved. I have also improved my excel abilities through the Learning and Development site, where I am aware that I can go to improve any of my skills by enrolling in one of the many courses offered both online and in person.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I have been entrusted with managing a variety of tasks from day one, with intern recruiting serving as the primary job that I will oversee from beginning to end. The opportunity to take on projects on my own and finish them to the high standards of JDE makes me aware that the work I produce has an influence on the business, which greatly enhances my sense of belonging to the team rather than simply feeling like the intern.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had no idea how much help I would receive once my internship began, but everyone on my HR team has welcomed me and is always there to answer any questions. There has never been a day where I have felt uneasy or apprehensive, making it the least nerve-wracking start to an internship. Outside of the HR team, everyone is just as kind, and I feel like I can talk to anyone for general guidance or to simply network with other members of the company. Additionally, I meet one-on-one with my line manager once a week to go over my progress, projects, and any other questions I may have.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • There is always someone near the coffee machines who is open for a little chat, and everyone in the office is really nice. I am aware that many of the teams are quite sociable, which gives the workplace a beautiful buzz-like feel. Within DE and I, everyone has the ability to express themselves, and this illustrates JDEs commitment to inclusivity. All of us interns participate in student charities, which gives us the chance to raise money for the organisations of our choice while also having a little fun.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have so far greatly enjoyed my placement, and I am excited to see where it leads me and to see how much more I grow as a person. My goals have been met and even exceeded. In addition to having my line manager's and the larger HR their advice and assistance to encourage my development and help me get the most out of my year at JDE, I love the amount of responsibility I have, which allows me to make my internship my own. I also have the chance to work from both locations, so I was fortunate to visit the Banbury facility for a tour and drive to the Hurley location to meet with the retail staff.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Jacobs Douwe Egberts
  • Be genuine. JDE, as I have stated, welcomes people of all backgrounds. Make sure to do some preliminary study about the organisation so you are aware of JDEs business model and prepared for the interview. I went up the website before my interview and discovered several helpful videos to watch. Ask questions and demonstrate your interest in the position and your goals for it during the interview process. Discover what JDE has to offer in terms of your personal and professional growth here. Get what you want out of the interview process so you may find the position that is most suitable for you!
