    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I'm responsible for the in-line pH project which is a R&D heavy project and involves correspondence with pH probe suppliers, weekly batch analysis and standardizing dosing amounts for the automation project. I work directly under the technical manager so have a lot of quality control related tasks in the lab as well.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my soft skills such as teamwork, communication, time management and planning and organization through management of change projects and monthly presentations. I have received training with plant engineering software, control systems and COSHH. Technical and IT skills have also been gained due to training with different lab equipment, working on site and using new software packages to analyze data.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I have a lot of responsibility here on this placement. I am in charge of keeping the in-line pH system running, making improvements and updating the project diaries and stock logs. I update the COA database, analyze all batches made each week and was given many data analysis jobs to kick of projects related to automation.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received plenty of training and guidance from my line manager who would also schedule monthly catch-up sessions with me to discuss the status of all my projects/jobs. All the operators are friendly and happy to let you shadow them and the laboratory staff are also really helpful.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Campact is a small company with strong family values due to being a subsidiary of EGGER (a global family company). EGGER believes in quality, progress and respect and cares for the well-being of employees. The atmosphere at Campact is light-hearted and cheerful despite the high regard for quality and health & safety.

  • Spend a lot of time onsite, get as involved as possible and volunteer for the Christmas and student event.
