    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working on campaign preparation and execution, liaising with local leads and regional stakeholders to ensure that all campaigns were well prepared and ready to deploy. Reporting on campaign performance, presenting findings to wider audiences. Participating in conversations about upcoming initiatives and strategic decisions. Overseeing campaign localisation and translation requests with global localisation teams, communicating effectively any changes or flags with local contacts and managing any changes. Working on presentations to present our plans and findings.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've learnt so much about the world of performance marketing, specifically CRM comms and communications. I feel able to provide constructive comments and effectively assess campaign performance. I feel more confident in my organisational skills, being more able to prioritise tasks, feeling less overwhelmed when I am met with many tasks. I am leaving with great knowledge and interest in the sector that I know will be useful in the future. With so many marketing divisions in the company there's always so much to learn and be immersed in.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility throughout the year (a lot more than I anticipated from a placement scheme). I feel like I was pushed outside of my comfort zone and able to take on tasks independently. With such a large CRM programme there were many opportunities to challenge myself. I was responsible for checking campaigns, proof-reading and spotting (and solving) and issues that arose. I definitely have a lot of experience to add to my CV!

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of support from my line manager, wider team and from the Disney Intern Development Programme. I had 1-to-1's with various levels of management and always felt like I could approach those senior to me with any issues or interests. People at the company are so friendly and always happy to help, I also found a week handover with my previous intern useful to gain more content surrounding my role at the beginning. The early careers team are also great - putting on events and even hosting an Alumni LinkedIn group.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is very welcoming and accepting. The dress code is relaxed and you are always encouraged to be yourself in the office. There are lots of employee perks (screenings, events, pop-ups, merchandise, discounts), and always lots of events going on in and around the office. I found my peers friendly and accepting and was always helped along the way. People are always willing to chat about their role and experience, and happy to help when needed.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I loved my internship. I learnt so much technically about the world of marketing and CRM as well as growing and developing personally. I was challenged and have a host of achievements to add to my CV and was able to take advantage of all the additional experiences and opportunities on offer throughout the year. I found the office a great space to work and be creative and found the internship programme to be great as you're always supported by a wider team of peers.

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to The Walt Disney Company
  • I'd say research around the role you're applying for. If you're writing a cover letter or attending an interview make your passion about the role and sector clear. They're not asking you to know your job role inside-out but rather be willing and excited to learn. Be comfortable in yourself and use all of your experiences (no matter how small) to talk about learnings and skills gained. You can normally only apply to one Disney programme so think about which one best applies to/interests you.
