    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • For my role, I am required to monitor the daily cash and any movements every morning in each bank as well as monitoring any cash burn - this is a task done every day. Other tasks may be done over a few days include user bank set up and certain projects however these tasks come and go - you are only required to do them if someone requires access.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I developed my time management and communication skills. As part of my role, I am required to get certain tasks done by a certain day or time. This allows myself to make strict deadlines and allows me to manage my time effectively. As my role is hybrid, I have developed my communication skills as it is essential in a work from home setting. My communication skills have lead to a development in my overall confidence.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • There is a lot of responsibility required for this role however the team is really nice and are always willing to help when you make mistakes. There will be cases and scenarios when you will be given a lot of responsibility, e.g. if your team is away on a business trip, you need to make sure projects are completed on time. Luckily, the work load isn't too much which gives a good balance.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received support and guidance throughout the year. Luckily, there was a crossover between myself and the previous placement student which allowed me to learn quicker. The team I work with have always been supportive and have helped me when needed. We all communicate with each other which makes it easier when needing guidance. My manager has provided me feedback throughout the year and has given me ways to improve which has helped me immensely.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • As it was a hybrid role, I was in the office 40% of the time and the office atmosphere was amazing. Everyone is really nice and kind. The company culture is really good and regular all employee townhalls are help to give everyone more information. The company kept all colleagues informed and up to date on any changes which were coming in place which made the overall atmosphere a positive place.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. It gave me experience which I had not previously had. I was able to build connections and develop my existing skills. I was also fortunate enough to meet some of the banks and was able to go out with them socially with my colleagues. I gained so much experience throughout the year which will help me immensely. • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
  • Cummins offers so many placement opportunities to students. I would definitely recommend applying as not only are you gaining experience in your chosen subject area but are also able to develop your existing skills as well as learn some new ones. Cummins runs many programmes throughout the year for students to gain knowledge which other companies don't do. They also offer a huge amount of graduate schemes for students wanting to come back after graduation.
