    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My main role is to continuously improve a section of the coffee processing plant. Within this section, I am responsible for reporting the performance week to week. This includes the daily tracking and reporting of key metrics, and the identification and investigation into areas responsible for losses Along with this, a large part of my role includes the completion of projects that improve the different aspects of the plant.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Communication, especially efficient communication. Sticking to the point and making sure I convey information in effective ways. Critical Thinking & Problem Solving - Having to problem solve day to day, I have learned the difference between approaches to problem solving. Making sure I am selecting the one that best suits a given situation. Working within a team - My key learning was noting the difference in operation between teams within the workplace and teams within University projects.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I am constantly impressed by the level of responsibility my role has within the plant. I find all my projects have purpose, I also find that my team members rely on me for key parts of their own projects. I would say this is one of the best parts of the internship. The responsibility placed on the intern is high, while the tasks are still well within the capability of an intern.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Generally, I receive a good amount of support with projects and other tasks. All staff are happy to help with any areas of my work. However, I have found that there are moments where the plant is understaffed and I struggle to find the support required. With this being said, it is in these situations I have felt my knowledge grow the most. This type of support works well for my learning, but I can see how it may not be ideal for others.

  • The company culture I find very supportive and the atmosphere warm. I find it difficult to recollect a bad interaction I have had with any of the team. Everyone is committed to their work and truly wants the best for the site. In addition to this, with events hosted throughout the year, it makes you feel as if you're really supporting the local community within Banbury.
