Overview
Daily tasks involved tracking of downtimes and global efficiency for the freeze dried department. I then reported in daily and weekly meetings to more senior members of the department. Outside of these routine tasks I managed small installations, trials and improvement projects with support from production engineers. The outcomes/ results of these were presented to key stakeholders.
Skills
Presentation skills, communication, organisation, understanding of a manufacturing environment, time management.
Responsibilities
Responsible for downtimes and global efficiency figures. Responsible for scoping and organising small projects (with support where needed).
Support & Guidance
As much as I needed, support was always available on request.
Culture
The team was really supportive and happy to help me understand something or explain something. It felt like they all wanted you to succeed as much as possible. Company culture was okay, the company has just been through big changes at the factory and this made the relationship between different associates slightly tense and hard to navigate.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I felt I learnt loads but more importantly greatly improved my soft skills and confidence. People were really supportive and willing to offer knowledge and advice.
Yes
Working within the production manufacturing team will involve more hands on work than you might expect but they provide a good working and supportive environment. There are many challenges working at Banbury factory but this gives much scope for improvement works and the ability to make an impact is greater than it might be at other companies.
