    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I am the packaging intern for the Brand Maintenance R&D team. On a day-to-day basis, i juggle multiple projects which are led by different colleagues, and as a result I am communicating and having meetings and briefings with multiple people each day. I occasionally have hands on work in the labs and factories relating to coffee production and packaging. I also have to communicate with colleagues around the world for projects.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I believe I have significantly developed my organisational skills. I am tasked with several projects and have been given the freedom to do them in my own way. I have learnt to organise and prioritise different tasks to make my work day as efficient as possible. I have also learnt a lot about adaptability, team work, communication and presentation.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. My manager and colleagues have entrusted me with several projects and tasks. After providing me with an introduction and tutorial, they allowed me to independently carry out several projects and assisted me when I required it. I was also trained on several machines in the factory/plant, and entrusted to run them independently with assistance being available if I required.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot. From the start of my placement, all my colleagues were always happy to help me out and take time out of their busy schedules to assist me or brief me on something I wasn't comfortable or familiar with. My manager especially, who often had a packed timetable, always found the time to help me with anything I needed and also offered advice and support not relating to work.
