Overview
On a day to day basis I track the production of freeze dry coffee and log the amount of time that our equipment is not running and the reasons why. I also support the process engineer who I report to on any day to day issues that come up regarding the efficiency of the plant. Furthermore I participate in many weekly and daily meetings to update on the state of equipment and plant.
Skills
I have learnt how to use new software such as Power BI and SCADA and have also greatly improved my skills with excel. I have learnt how to successfully prioritise projects and to be able to change priorities to align with the problems that rise up in the day to day that are key to the running of the plant if not solved.
Responsibilities
I feel that a great amount of responsibility was given to me with key projects and big actions that helped to drive improvement in the plant and made a difference for the performance of the factory. I was given a lot of autonomy to go and do certain tasks with support if I needed but mainly for me to first work out what should be done by myself.
Support & Guidance
My manager and the team that I was in was mazing in giving me support when needed and making sure that I had goals to work to, this was done over the whole year by having a dedicated personal development plan and also through weekly 1:1 meetings where we would go over any setback or problems with projects I was working on or if I needed any support, as well as reviewing goals
Culture
Everyone is really nice and accommodating and really helpful.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed being in the work environment and being an important part of the production team. It really made me realise that what I did during my placement is definitely something that I want to do when I move into full time work.
Yes
Make sure that you understand the ethos and the goals of the company whilst you are applying and that you are honest about the responses you give and the actions you take since they want to see what the real you is like and they'll want to see if that is a good fit for the job.
